Harold Oliver Primary School
Harold Oliver Primary School has a playground where I would often go to play as a child. During my first visit to take photographs, in 2006, I was dismayed to discover that they'd removed the monster truck-sized tires that once stood vertically along a fence. Fixed solidly to the ground, those tires could be climbed -- the tread made excellent ladders. I was happy to see that not every piece of play equipment from my childhood days was gone, however; the tall slide, a large seesaw-type log, a metal climber, and a set of metal parallel bars and a balance beam were still there. Everything else was new (or in the case of one dilapidated tire swing, not so much).
I've made a few treks to this park since 2006. In late 2010, the big metal slide was removed. In 2011 or 2012, the seesaw went to the playground boneyard. The wavy metal climber is gone as of 2012. All that remains from my childhood is the balance beam & parallel bars, and the only things that survived from 2006 to 2012 are that, the purple climbing bars, the swings, and the wooden climbing structure with the white slide. There are several new things that were put in during 2011 or 2012, including a rock wall/climber, a yellow bar climber, and a new plastic play structure.
Location: 15811 SE Main Street, Portland
2023 Update: Harold Oliver Primary School is now called Parklane Elementary School. The campus also houses Oliver Middle School. The playground has (again) changed a bit; I hope to do an update soon.
